LEDs – what’s the difference?
LEDs (Light-emitting diodes) are so popular today as they are one of the most energy efficient lighting options on the market. LED lights last longer, are more durable than other lighting choices and the technology is up to 80% more efficient.
What is LED lighting commonly used for?
- LED Lighting for the home
- LED Lighting for the office
- LED outdoor lighting
- Industrial LED lighting solutions
- LED Decorative and Holiday Lights
What are the benefits of LED Lighting?
1. LED lights save energy
LEDs use less power than most other lighting sources. They operate on a super low voltage (converted internally from input voltage) and are highly efficient. We determine efficiency by the amount of light produced per unit of power that the bulb consumes. At the end of the day, LEDs cost less to operate, this is reflected in your electricity bill and you save money!
2. LEDs are low maintenance
LED bulbs require less ongoing maintenance and need to be replaced less often as they are more efficient and have a longer lifespan. Once LED bulbs are installed, you can usually forget about them for a long time as their operating hours average between 15,000 – 50,000.
3. LED lighting can be ‘Smart controlled’
Some specially designed LED products can be used with smartphones or home assistants such as Alexa, Google or Siri to control their LED lighting. Lights can be switched on or off remotely as well as dimmed or brightened and there are many apps out there, designed specifically for LEDs.
4. Color Rendering Index and LED Color temperatures
CRI (Color Rendering Index) is a measure of how a light source reveals the true color of objects compared to natural light, the higher on the index, the better. Generally LED lights have a high CRI. LED Lighting is available in a range of CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) options, meaning that lights can be ‘cool’ or ‘warm’ depending on the needs of your home or work environment.
5. LED Lights last longer
There is no real comparison as LED lights last significantly longer than traditional options. Operating time for average LEDs is between 15,000 – 50,000 hours and even in some cases up to 100,000 hours. Clearly this means a lot less maintenance and a more cost effective, energy saving solution.
6. LED lights are safer
For any lighting source, heat emission is the biggest safety concern. Because LEDs use less power, they can generate significantly less heat and operate safer.
LEDs in summary
Today, LEDs are fast becoming the most popular lighting solution for indoor and outdoor use in homes, offices, industrial settings and more.
LED Lights are:
- Energy efficient
- Cost effective
- Environmentally friendly
- Safer
- Low maintenance
- Long lasting
- Constantly evolving with technology
Sure, LEDs may cost a little extra to switch over or get started, but in the long run, they are the smartest choice for long-term, modern lighting solutions.
